Tour description:
This tour combines the canoe trip down the Tsiribihina River and the visit of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park.
The Tsiribihina River tour requires an English speaking tour guide who is also a good cook. After the river, drive to the Tsingy of Bemaraha for 2 days visit of the National Park. The Tsingy de Bemaraha tour includes hike to the most spectacular limestone’s pinnacles in the World. The Decken’s Sifaka is the specie of Sifaka which can be seen in the Petit Tsingy and in the Grand Tsingy in the Tsingy National Park. The Tsingy Park is among the rare places to see the Ring tailed Mongoose and some endemic of the Birds of Madagascar like the Schlegel’s Asity and the Madagascar fish eagle…
The visit of the gorge of the Manambolo River takes you to the caves to see among the oldest stalactites and stalagmites in Madagascar. This adventure tour will drive you to visit the famous baobab trees including the twisty Baobabs in Love, the Avenue of Baobabs for amazing sunset photography

Rating 1: easy: The canoe trip along the Tsiribihina River is a relaxing break. You are required to carry your pack on and off the dugout canoe, up hotel steps, etc
Rating 4: moderate: the 2 to 6 hours hike requires good level of fitness. Fitter you are, more you will enjoy your hike to the Petit Tsingy and the Big Tsingy.
Rating 5: strenuous: Full-day hikes, steep ups and downs especially if you hike to the Sportif circuit or the Broadway circuit which require a high level of fitness.
Circuit: Tana – Antsirabe – Miandrivazo – River trip – Tsingy of Bemaraha – Baobabs – Morondava
The visit starts a day after arrival or on arrival at the international airport.
Day 1: Drive from Tana to Antsirabe
Tana – Antsirabe: 175 kms distance, 3 and a half hours drive
- Drive from Tana to Antsirabe, see handicraft market on the way, beautiful landscape of the Merina tribe area, the everyday life of the Merina people.
- Visit of Antsirabe: the hot spring city with its rickshaws, semiprecious stones, lakes…

Day 2: Drive from Antsirabe to Miandrivazo

Day 3: Canoeing along the Tsiribihina River
- First day on the river:
People and village, fishers, beautiful scenery and landscape, birding, chameleons

Get to the gorge of the Tsiribihina for camping:
- Camping and picnics: Dinner with candles on the river bank, beautiful sunset, stars or moonlight
Day 4: Gorge of the Tsiribihina River and swim at the Waterfall
Always on the river:
Exploring the gorge of the Bemaraha area
- Lemur watching, shower and swim at the waterfall, lunch
- Paddling from the waterfall to the second camping site, in between: walk to visit a Sakalava traditional village.
- Camping and picnics: Dinner with candles on the river bank, beautiful sunset, stars or moonlight
Day 5: Zebu cart ride after the Tsiribihina River
Third and last day on the river: see crocodiles, bats, lemurs and sifakas, baobab trees
Pass across the second gorge, see flying foxes (bats) and other bird species, crocodiles if lucky then lunch under some trees.
- Walk in the forest to see lemurs and sifakas.
- Finish the river trip once out of the second gorge
- Last night camping
NB: Another possibility is to take a zebu cart to Tsiraraka village, walk through remote villages then spend the third night in a basic bungalow where cold drinks are served under a baobab tree.

Day 6: Drive with 4WD to the Tsingy de Bemaraha
- Drive from the river bank or from the bungalow to Bekopaka where the Tsingy de Bemaraha is situated, Lunch in Belo sur Tsiribihina

Day 7: Full day visit of the Petit Tsingy National Park
- Start the first morning with the visit of the gorge of Manambolo on a dugout canoe.
To see: caves, stalactites, stalagmites, the famous family tomb of the Vazimba tribe who lived in the Tsingy in the 17th century, the beautiful gorge of limestone pinnacles
- Back to the Hotel for Lunch
- Afternoon hike in the beautiful Small Tsingy.
To see: labyrinth of limestones, 2 view points on the limestones pinnacles formation, the biggest Sifaka ( white Lemurs ) called Decken’s Sifaka., red fronted brown Lemurs, Birds species, spiders …
This tour is a perfect circle which finishes on the Manambolo River’s gorge.

Day 8: Full day visit of the Grand Tsingy National Park
- Early morning start to drive 15 Kms to the Grand Tsingy (1 hour drive)
- 4 to 5 hours hike in the amazing and infinite Grand Tsingy
To see: 30 Meter high cracks, forest canyon home to lemurs and birds species…where the flora is truly unique with its endemic and medicinal plants, caves, cathedral of rocks, and a view from the highest roof of the Grand Tsingy…
- Drive back to the hotel for lunch
- Here you can relax on your own in the afternoon
- In the evening, hire the local guide for a nocturnal walk to see: chameleons and especially the rare mouse-Lemurs.

Day 9: Visit of the Avenue of Baobabs while drive to Morondava
Drive straight back to Morondava:
Visit of the sacred Baobab and twisty Baobabs in love, and then spend the sunset at the Avenue of Baobabs for amazing photography of Baobabs at sunset.

Day 10: Transfer to the airport of Morondava

1. It is possible to drive straight from Tana to Miandrivazo if you have less time
2. It is possible to go down the river with only 2 nights camping and get to Tsingy on the 3rd day.
3. If you have less time, it’s possible to explore the Small and the Big Tsingy in 1 day which still requires 2 nights stay in the Hotel in the Tsingy.
4. The best way to leave Morondava is to fly with Air Madagascar, Check your internal flight at: http://www.alternativeairlines.com/Flights
5. Young and fit people instead of flying can take a taxi brousse back to Tana or Antsirabe to save money; check: Taxi brousse.
6. If don’t have any time to go to the beach, Morondava offers an opportunity to stay on the beach which is on the North of the city.
Also you can visit a fishing village of the Vezo people and know more about this nomad people who work on the sea, camp on small Islands and only go to Morondava to sell sea food.
